Blue-tailed Damselfly, Needs Ore,
Inspired by my day exploring the shoreline at Needs Ore, this piece depicts the Blue-tailed Damselfly I was watching as I drew. I had obviously settled in one of the insect’s favoured spots as it returned time and again as I worked away on a bigger drawing. Attempting to get a photo of it for identification I realised I should be drawing it instead – it is, after all, what I do for a living! It is a slow and focussed way to draw looking at insects, time is spent looking at how things join up, how many segments things have and how to depict the transparency of wings. I was pleased in the monotype to be able to depict the context in which I witnessed this beautiful creature.
