Grey seals, Isle of May,
Charcoal, graphite and pastel on paper, 76 cm x 56 cm
This is made at a favourite spot on the Isle of May. A small causeway where the seals come in to rest, play and feed when the tide is high and often remained hauled up on rocks as the water recedes. As I watched a couple of seals vigorously played in the water below me - my interest was in the contrast between the smooth shapes and depth of the water against the yellow lichen covered rocks above.
