I have done a lot of work at St Abb's Head over the years. At first I found it really difficult to find a visual way of representing the place. I was overwhelmed by the amount of birds and the sheer vastness of the landscape - I felt challenged by how to give a strong sense of place whilst featuring the birds in the work. It is now one of my go-to places and after both lockdowns being able to return to St Abb's to draw was an absolute joy. This piece was made in the summer of 2021, at the end of the breeding season, late summer light on the stacks and House Martins wheeling around in the air.
