Gathered Eiders,
Monotype with hand-colouring, 60 cm x 42 cm
Currently available through Birdscapes Gallery, Norfolk.
This is an original monotype made in response to watching groups of Eider ducks gathering together at the very start of the breeding season along the East Lothian coast. Eiders are such a great shape, although it can be hard to balance the subtle colouring of the females with the bold, colour-blocks of the males. I use printmaking a lot in my work, as a way of removing myself from the scene - allowing for a more interpretive response - whilst also keeping the energy of working outdoors through each layer of ink being made in response to what has gone before. Sometimes it works, and sometimes not!
