Feeding Curlew 2,
Charcoal, pastel and coloured pencil on paper, 57 cm x 38 cm
I had a lovely afternoon watching this Curlew feeding busily along the banks of the Peffer Burn. It was so busy and focused, oblivious to me drawing away trying to capture something of the movement and shapes it made as it hunted. At one moment I watched it pick up in its bill what looked like a mound of seaweed which it shook vigorously - bits of weed flying everywhere. This revealed the wiggling legs of a medium-sized crab which the Curlew proceeded to gulp down in one go!
