Teaching

As a practising artist I design and deliver workshops and courses in a variety of fine art disciplines. My teaching centres on drawing, painting and printmaking, with an emphasis on drawing from observation as a starting point and the facilitation of individual practice through group learning. My particular areas of interest are the natural world, drawing and painting 'en plein air', expressive drawing techniques, experimental printmaking processes, monotype printmaking and working with colour.

My experience covers a range of art tuition from one-to-one tutorials to group sessions tailored for adults and children.

Individual sessions are offered from my studio in Leith, Edinburgh at the rate of £50 per hour. Sessions should be booked in blocks of four to ensure development. Participants are invited to bring work in progress to be discussed one-to-one. Guidance will be given to assist each student to reach their full potential and topics covered may include

  • keeping a successful sketchbook

  • translating observed sketches into finished works

  • how to develop studio work through materials and processes

  • formal development of drawings and paintings

  • researching and developing a line of enquiry

Get in touch to book a session or for details about day rates and group rates.

All sessions will take place at Coburg House Art Studios, 15 Coburg Street, Edinburgh, EH6 6ET.

I am always interested in taking up opportunities to deliver workshops around Scotland and northern England. Specific areas of my teaching specialisms include the following:

  • expressive drawing techniques

  • experimental printmaking with and without a press

  • drawing and printmaking as processes for developing ideas in paint

  • exploring colour in the natural world

  • personal visual responses to the natural world
